Fine O Wine is a family-owned Auckland retailer specialising in organic and natural wines, spirits and beverages, with three stores and a loyal local following built up since 2018. We designed and built a modern, fast e-commerce site on WordPress and WooCommerce, bringing their full catalogue online alongside the features a serious drinks retailer needs.

Fine O Wine: an established Auckland drinks specialist

Fine O Wine has spent years building a name as one of Auckland’s go-to destinations for organic and natural wines, hand-picked spirits and hard-to-find bottles. Proudly family owned and operated since 2018, they run three retail stores staffed by people who genuinely know their range — the kind of personal, knowledgeable service their regulars rave about.

What they didn’t have was a way to bring that experience online. Customers could visit a store, but they couldn’t browse the full range, place an order, or arrange a pickup from home. For a retailer with a large and constantly evolving catalogue — everything from everyday cans to rare cellar vintages — that was a growing gap.

The brief: a modern store worthy of the range

The ask was clear. Fine O Wine wanted a proper e-commerce platform: modern design, fast loading speed, an efficient cart and checkout, customer account logins, order and shipment tracking, and a rewards-points system to recognise loyal shoppers. In short, a store that could do justice to their range and match the standard of service customers already enjoyed in person.

They found us through a referral — someone who had seen our work and pointed them our way. From the first conversation, the priority was a site that looked the part, loaded quickly, and made it easy to shop a large catalogue without anyone getting lost along the way.

Structuring a large catalogue so it’s easy to shop

With a range this broad, navigation was everything. We mapped the catalogue into clear, browsable categories — organic & natural wines, reds, rosé, whites, champagne, ginger wines, sake, whisky, gin, vodka and non-alcoholic — and layered curated collections, new arrivals, specials and an exclusive cellar collection on top, so customers could find both an everyday bottle and something special.

We built faceted filtering and a clear mega-menu so shoppers can narrow by category, wine type and price without friction, then planned the account, order-tracking and rewards features the brief called for around that structure.

Building the store

We designed and built the site on WordPress and WooCommerce with a custom theme tailored to the Fine O Wine brand — clean, modern and unmistakably theirs. The full catalogue went online, with product pages carrying clear imagery, live stock status, and helpful badges that flag organic, natural, new and award-winning bottles at a glance.

Behind the shopfront, we delivered the feature set a modern drinks retailer needs. Customer accounts let shoppers log in, track their orders and save favourites to a wishlist. A rewards-points system and VIP club recognise repeat custom. We added thoughtful extras too: gift-card personalisation so an order can be sent as a present, and tiered pricing for customers buying by the case.

Crucially, we set up click & collect across all three Auckland stores, so customers can order online and pick up locally — tying the new online store back to the physical shops. The whole site was built mobile-first and optimised to load quickly, so it performs whether someone is browsing on the couch or on the go.

Launched on time and selling 24/7

The store launched on schedule with the full catalogue live. Fine O Wine can now sell online around the clock, take orders while the stores are closed, and offer click & collect across all three locations. The site is fast and mobile-friendly, giving customers the same easy, considered experience online that they get in store.
